Kate Booth & Mighty Mouse

Last year, I had the pleasure of meeting drag racer Kate Booth. Kate drives Mighty Mouse, a 50s Ford Pop that flies down the quarter-mile in 10 seconds.

She's been racing for five years and competes in the Gasser Circus class. During Doorslammers at Santa Pod Raceway, Kate gave me a quick insight into her experience of this flat-out sport.

What do you enjoy most about racing Mighty Mouse?

"It's the adrenaline rush. It's got to be.”

How do you feel before a race?

"I have to be in the car quite early because I like to be in my own little world and focused when we get down there. So I'm probably sat in the car way earlier than a lot of drivers."

"When I first started, I would sit there and go through exactly what I was about to do. I don't tend to do that as much now because it just started to come fairly naturally."

"On the first run of any meeting...I'm always really quite nervous. But once you get that out of the way, it's like, oh yeah, I know to do this. This is cool. And then it's just exciting!"

What do you love most about drag racing?

"Drag racing is an amazing motorsport...everyone's really friendly and willing to help you. It's a competition, but at the same time, they do anything to help you compete. If anything breaks, everybody rallies around and tries to fix it. It's just a lovely place to be."
